Separated by the Guadiana and Caya, Elvas, Badajoz and Campo Maior rivers form a geographical and historical triangle from whose vertices, their citizens observe each other for centuries. White and steep elvas, on the foothills of the Sierra de Osa and protected by its strong walls and bastions. Badajoz, extended to the margins of the Guadiana and dominated by the profiles of the towers of Espantaperros, Santa Maria and Cathedral of San Juan. Campo Maior (Spanish before being Portuguese) complements the defensive triangle around the Spanish-Portuguese border north
Separated by a few kilometers away, but separated by a story that inexorably prevented them from enjoying the closeness and common relationships of men and women who were born under the same sky, to rest in the same land. Fields of pastures, adorned with holm oaks and cork oaks. Lands inhabited by similar people, which fortunately are confused in the motley life of the shopping streets or in the halls of the numerous restaurants that animate these cities.
Monuments of similar characteristics, its scrathed enclosures tell us about encounters and encounters, epic situations that happily disappeared forever and that today serve to attract tourists eager for landscapes (urban or natural), where the absence of massification and noise allow its integration into the lives of the cities they visit. Two different languages, but a common origin, which luckily for both peoples were able to overcome, primeiro com or "portuñol" and progressively with the effort of their Cidadanos to study, understand and speak correctly the languages of Comens and Cervantes.
The Municipal Chamber of Elvas, the City Of Badajoz and the Municipal Chamber of Campo Maior have the floor. And its presidents in their hands, to make possible once together joint actions that allow the necessary development of this "Eurocity".
Talking about the possibilities that open up for both populations, the resources that can be obtained and the ins and details of actions, protocols and requirements, is a matter of the technicians. And there are good ones in these towns. None are mentioned, because perhaps others with excellent intentions and equal preparation might feel ignored.
Let us hope for the good sense of our politicians and for the benefit of the three cities, who are able to approach, to communicate, to join wills and to take the steps that have not been taken so far. Whatever you do or stop doing will fall on your political and personal conscience and your citizens will have to take that into account when you are accountable.
But beware, this task is a matter of three. From three institutions, from their two leaders. When you don't want to, two don't argue.
And there's an important road to go. And immediate actions to be taken. For example: Coordinate so that the various cultural, historical and even political events do not overlap. But quite the opposite, that a good organization in common, allows citizens to enjoy the eurocity of each and every one of them. And for all this, plan at least punctual, public transport services (buses or rail) that allow citizen participation.
