Its proximity to the border made him comprise of the fortified lines that defended it throughout the history of the attacks of Castile. All the zone, is laid out of castles and medieval strengths, that went later adapting to the new techniques of the war. Like other near localities, it both received great strategic importance in the successory fights between neighboring countries, War of Restoration of Portugal and Guerra de Spanish Sucesión, situation that was repeated during the years that lasted the Peninsular wars of Independence caused by the French invasion. |
