CASTLES AND FORTRESSES

From his foundation, the city of Badajoz occupied the center of an important geostrategic zone of approximately hundred kilometres of diameter, where they find important localities of Portugal and Spain. There was important strong Arabic square and the capital of the kingdom of the Aftásidas, being enlarged in the later years by the Almoravids and Almohades, up to his conquest for Alfonso IX of León. It was a center of the frontier disputes between the kingdoms peninsualres of Castile and Portugal, and later, preferential scene of the Wars of Restoration of Portuguese and of Spanish Succession, which during dozens of years they destroyed the population because of the numerous sieges suffered by the square.During the War of the Independence his walls bore four hard sieges, first of Napoleon's ejercitp and later of the troops allied of Great Britain, Portugal and Spain.
