EVORA

Capital of the Alentejo

City Heritage Patrimony of the Humanity

          Version portugues

The importance, both historical and monumental of this beautiful city, in itself deserves a space that highlights its qualities and careful beauty. From these pages he tries to show the most relevant aspects of it, its history and its monuments, to contribute to a better knowledge of this unique enclave, whose origins go back from prehistory, to the times when it was the residence of the Lusigothic monarchs, passing through the Roman, Visigothic, Arab and Christian eras, after being recaptured by the legendary Geraldo sen Pavor. It currently is obsessed with the capital of the wide Portuguese Alentejo region. The different civilizations have left in the old town a great diversity of monuments, representing their different architectural styles. Roman, Gothic, Renaissance or Plateresque art are preserved with primor in every corner of this living museum called Evora. For this reason it has long been showing with pride its title of world heritage city, assigned by UNESCO.
